Wirelessly add a pair of Sonos One surrounds for immersive. So as John was stating, your amp, or ones/fives, set up for surround sound duty need to be relatively close to the soundbar, rather than close to the router or any other Sonos speaker in different rooms. Enjoy stereo sound for shows, films, and video games when you connect Amp to your speakers and TV. However, both of those devices are 100 incompatible with the S2 firmware, and MUST remain in the S1 System. Consider buying the Connect:Amp (Gen 2) and the Play:5 (Gen 2). In that case, the soundbar is going to communicate with the route and other Sonos speakers setup in different rooms.and send audio to the other speakers it’s bonded to.amp and maybe a sub in your case. The Connect:Amp (Gen 1) and the Play:5 (Gen 1) both need to be running the S2 firmware in order to be added as rear surrounds in the S2 App. Because of the internals upgrade, the most important difference is the Gen 1 is only compatible with the Sonos S1 app and the Gen 2 is compatible with both the S1 and S2 app. However, that doesn’t apply for speakers bonded together in a single room. The only difference I could find was basic computing internals were upgraded for the Gen 2, and the mute button on the front was changed to a Play/Pause button. rear of the property, if you think you would like a good Wi-Fi signal in the. You have the chose of whatever works best for you. That way you can control the zones as if they are regular. What you heard is correct in that you have the option to setup Sonos speakers to use sonosnet (with one speaker connected by wire to router) or completely on WiFi. Thank you so much for the advice, I really appreciate it The surround sound system that I am looking to set up would consist of a sound bar and amp located close together and two rear speakers 1-015 feet away. I had heard that the newer systems don’t need to be hardwired to ethernet to set up, so I assumed they need wifi. Are the Sonos speakers (One, Five, etc) not dependent on wifi? As I said my existing sonos system is very old, and all of my sonos ‘rooms’ consist of a set of wired speakers connected to a connect amp (so no Sonos speakers). The Sonos Amp is available to buy right now for 699 / 699 / AU1099 - and yes, that price has increased since it launched in 2019, when it cost 699 / 599 /AU999. It wasn’t my intent to put the Amp near the router, I just meant (but didn’t say) that the location of the soundbar (and therefore the amp) has better wifi signal than the current location of the speakers.īut you said something that is interesting to me.
